JoAnne Challenger is a lifelong educator and the past First Vice President of Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. As First Vice President, Trustee Challenger was responsible for the implementation of the Sorority’s national program goals related to education, health, family, and sustainability. She served in this elected position for 5 years. Trustee Challenger’s other leadership roles in Tau Omega Chapter were Chair of the AKA Connection, Board Member of Tau Omega Charitable Trust, and served as Chair and Co-Chair of the chapter’s fundraising efforts in 2011 and 2010, respectfully. Trustee Challenger continues to coordinate the chapter’s affiliation with the United Nations Association (UNA-USA) and serves as a Member-At-Large on the Board of Directors to the UNA-USA Southern NY Division. In 2017 Trustee Challenger was appointed Chair of the Service Project for the 2018 North Atlantic Regional Conference. Trustee Challenger is a Silver Star and has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for 45years.
